The owners wanted something simple and clean that could facilitate their small family and their two dogs. We retained a fair bit of the ambulance cabinets and did not dive into pulling all the wiring etc. Instead we disabled what was not necessary and utilized some parts of other stuff such as the switch panel, secondary batteries and various wiring.
We added in a propane system to run the Propex heater as well as the dual burner stove top. Utilizing the exterior cabinets for the fresh and grey water tanks as well as storage of the propane tank and heater made this a simple and clean solution while maintaining maximum interior space.
Needing a space for their little one to sleep for years to come we gutted some upper cabinets and created a bunk bed above the main bed with fold down access door. A long butcher block pullout table tucked under the bed gives plenty of room for the family to eat or hunker down in poor weather. Leaving the space open under the bed allows for options of storage and dog sleeping depending on what they bring along for each trip. And don’t forget the folding dog dish shelf!
The kitchen features a stainless steel sink, two burner stove, storage drawers and acacia wood butcher block counter top and tile backsplash to round things out. The drawers and sink are cut into the external cabinet to steal back some of that space to the interior.
This ambulance was from a mine site so it was not miled out liked your typical units and with a 7.3L turbo diesel it will be on the road for years to come.
